Every column after the wage is take-home pay. Each row assumes 40 hours a week all year, one paycheck every two weeks, single, no dependents, and no benefits taken out. The monthly and yearly columns are that paycheck times 26. Use the paycheck calculator for your own hours and deductions.
Wilmington's earned income tax is not in these figures. It applies to the wages of city residents and of nonresidents who work in the city, and state law caps it at 1.25 percent. See Delaware's local tax rules, or try the paycheck calculator.
What comes out of an hourly paycheck
At $25 an hour, a two-week paycheck in Delaware starts at $2,000.00 and ends at $1,597.88.
| Federal income tax | $156.15 |
| Social Security | $124.00 |
| Medicare | $29.00 |
| Delaware income tax | $84.97 |
| Delaware Paid Leave | $8.00 |
Delaware taxes wages at 2.2 to 6.6 percent on income over $2,000, after a standard deduction, and gives a $110 credit for the worker and each person they claim. Delaware Paid Leave adds a second state line: up to 0.4 percent of wages, half of the 0.8 percent contribution, taken at employers with 25 or more workers on wages up to $184,500. Federal income tax, Social Security, and Medicare come out in addition to both.
Contributions began on January 1, 2025, and benefits began on January 1, 2026, so the paid leave line is new, and a smaller employer may not take it.
What changes your number
Delaware's state line is graduated, so it grows faster than the wage, and the $110 credit per person softens it for a worker who claims dependents. The credit is the same fixed amount at every wage, which helps a low-paid worker proportionally more.
The other mover is your employer. The paid leave line applies only at employers with 25 or more workers, so two people at the same wage can see different checks. Wilmington adds an earned income tax for people who live or work in the city, covered in the note under the table.
Hours matter too. At $20 an hour and 30 hours a week instead of 40, a two-week paycheck in Delaware comes to $1,002.68.
The minimum wage in Delaware
