Every column after the wage is take-home pay. Each row assumes 40 hours a week all year, one paycheck every two weeks, single, no dependents, and no benefits taken out. The monthly and yearly columns are that paycheck times 26. Use the paycheck calculator for your own hours and deductions.

What comes out of an hourly paycheck

At $25 an hour, a two-week paycheck in Hawaii starts at $2,000.00 and ends at $1,587.33.

Federal income tax$156.15
Social Security$124.00
Medicare$29.00
Hawaii income tax$93.52
Hawaii Temporary Disability Insurance (TDI)$10.00

Hawaii taxes income at graduated rates that start at 1.4 percent. Employers withhold at rates from 1.4 to 7.9 percent of wages after allowances, and the annual return goes higher for very high incomes. Temporary Disability Insurance is the second state line: employers can take up to 0.5 percent of weekly wages, never more than $7.50 a week in 2026, which is 0.5 percent of a $1,500.21 weekly wage base. Federal income tax, Social Security, and Medicare also come out.

Hawaii has no state paid family leave deduction, so the disability line is the only leave-style charge on the check.

What changes your number

Two Hawaii quirks shape the table. The disability charge is capped by the week, not the year, so at higher wages it stops growing once a week's pay passes the $1,500.21 base, and the line stays flat from there. The income tax is graduated, so it keeps rising faster than the wage.

Allowances matter more than usual. The HW-4 form lets you claim one for yourself, one for a spouse, and one per dependent, and each lowers the amount withheld. Your return settles the actual tax, so a check that runs high or low is evened out in the spring.

Hours matter too. At $20 an hour and 30 hours a week instead of 40, a two-week paycheck in Hawaii comes to $1,004.55.

The minimum wage in Hawaii

The minimum wage in Hawaii is $16.00 an hour, and a full-time worker at $16 takes home about $2,303 a month. The statute then raises the rate to $18.00 on January 1, 2028.
