Every column after the wage is take-home pay. Each row assumes 40 hours a week all year, one paycheck every two weeks, single, no dependents, and no benefits taken out. The monthly and yearly columns are that paycheck times 26. Use the paycheck calculator for your own hours and deductions.

What comes out of an hourly paycheck

At $25 an hour, a two-week paycheck in Maine starts at $2,000.00 and ends at $1,602.85.

Federal income tax$156.15
Social Security$124.00
Medicare$29.00
Maine income tax$78.00
Maine Paid Family and Medical Leave$10.00

Maine taxes wages at 5.8, 6.75, and 7.15 percent, after a standard deduction that shrinks for higher earners. A new 2 percent surcharge applies to income over $1,000,000 ($1,500,000 for married couples) starting in 2026, which this table never reaches. Maine Paid Family and Medical Leave adds up to 0.5 percent of wages, half of the 1 percent premium, on wages up to $184,500. Maine's three rates and the leave premium sit beside federal income tax, Social Security, and Medicare.

Paychecks have carried the premium since January 1, 2025, and benefits became payable on May 1, 2026. No city or county tax is added.

What changes your number

Maine's three rates sit fairly close together, but the standard deduction shrinks as pay rises, so the state's share grows with each step up the table. The leave premium is steady at up to 0.5 percent of wages, and moves only with gross pay.

Form W-4ME works through allowances for yourself, a spouse, head of household, and each dependent. The paycheck calculator can show how your own mix changes the check. Raises matter more here than in a flat-tax state, since each step can push more of your pay into a higher rate.

Hours matter too. At $20 an hour and 30 hours a week instead of 40, a two-week paycheck in Maine comes to $1,013.05.

The minimum wage in Maine

The minimum wage in Maine is $15.10 an hour, and a full-time worker at $15.10 takes home about $2,207 a month. It rises to $15.70 on Jan 1, 2027. Maine adjusts its minimum wage each January 1 for the cost of living, and the tip wage rises from $7.55 to $7.85 at the same time.
