What comes out of an hourly paycheck

At $25 an hour, a two-week paycheck in Minnesota starts at $2,000.00 and ends at $1,590.78.

Federal income tax$156.15
Social Security$124.00
Medicare$29.00
Minnesota income tax$91.27
Minnesota Paid Leave$8.80

Minnesota taxes income at graduated rates of 5.35, 6.8, 7.85, and 9.85 percent. Minnesota Paid Leave began on January 1, 2026, with a premium of 0.88 percent of wages, and employers may take up to half of it, 0.44 percent, from a worker's pay on wages up to $184,500. Beyond those two state lines, federal income tax, Social Security, and Medicare come out.

Minnesota stacks a paid leave line on four income tax rates, and no city or county adds to it.

What changes your number

Minnesota's four rates reach as high as 9.85 percent, so its state share grows faster than pay as you move down the table. The leave premium stays steady at up to 0.44 percent of wages.

Form W-4MN allows an allowance for yourself, one for a spouse, one for head of household, and one for each dependent. The leave program is new in 2026, so check that your employer takes the worker's half and no more. Overtime and tips are taxed like regular pay.

Hours matter too. At $20 an hour and 30 hours a week instead of 40, a two-week paycheck in Minnesota comes to $999.15.

The minimum wage in Minnesota

The minimum wage in Minnesota is $11.41 an hour, and a full-time worker at $11.41 takes home about $1,693 a month. It rises to $11.87 on Jan 1, 2027. Minneapolis and St. Paul set higher city minimums, and a 90-day training wage of $9.31 for workers under 20 is allowed in 2026.
