Every column after the wage is take-home pay. Each row assumes 40 hours a week all year, one paycheck every two weeks, single, no dependents, and no benefits taken out. The monthly and yearly columns are that paycheck times 26. Use the paycheck calculator for your own hours and deductions.

Pennsylvania's local earned income tax and Local Services Tax are not in these figures. Most workers pay a local earned income tax whose rate is set locally, and Philadelphia and Pittsburgh residents pay more than the state alone. See Pennsylvania's local tax rules, or try the paycheck calculator.

What comes out of an hourly paycheck

At $25 an hour, a two-week paycheck in Pennsylvania starts at $2,000.00 and ends at $1,628.05.

Federal income tax$156.15
Social Security$124.00
Medicare$29.00
Pennsylvania income tax$61.40
Pennsylvania unemployment compensation employee contribution$1.40

Pennsylvania takes a flat 3.07 percent of every paycheck, with no allowances for filing status or dependents. A second small state line, the unemployment compensation contribution of 0.07 percent of gross wages, comes out as well, along with federal income tax, Social Security, and Medicare. No disability or leave program takes a share in Pennsylvania.

The state side is a single flat rate, and the local side varies a great deal, since most workers also pay a local earned income tax.

What changes your number

Your address and your workplace move a Pennsylvania check more than a raise does. The local earned income tax is set by city, borough, or township and by school district, and the employer withholds the higher of the home-municipality resident rate and the work-location nonresident rate.

Philadelphia sets its own Wage Tax, 3.735 percent for residents and 3.425 percent for nonresidents on pay from July 1, 2026. A Pittsburgh resident pays 3 percent in all, 1 percent to the city and 2 percent to the school district. Many municipalities add a Local Services Tax of up to $52 a year, taken in slices from each paycheck. Where it is over $10 a year, workers earning under $12,000 in that place are exempt.

Hours matter too. At $20 an hour and 30 hours a week instead of 40, a two-week paycheck in Pennsylvania comes to $1,010.37.

The minimum wage in Pennsylvania

The minimum wage in Pennsylvania is $7.25 an hour, and a full-time worker at $7.25 takes home about $1,121 a month. A bill to raise it to $11 on January 1, 2027 passed the House on March 24, 2026 and sits in the Senate, so no increase is law.
