Every column after the wage is take-home pay. Each row assumes 40 hours a week all year, one paycheck every two weeks, single, no dependents, and no benefits taken out. The monthly and yearly columns are that paycheck times 26. Use the paycheck calculator for your own hours and deductions.
What comes out of an hourly paycheck
At $25 an hour, a two-week paycheck in Rhode Island starts at $2,000.00 and ends at $1,595.29.
| Federal income tax | $156.15 |
| Social Security | $124.00 |
| Medicare | $29.00 |
| Rhode Island income tax | $73.56 |
| Rhode Island Temporary Disability Insurance | $22.00 |
Rhode Island's income tax has three rates: 3.75, 4.75, and 5.99 percent. Temporary Disability Insurance takes 1.1 percent of the first $100,000 of wages in 2026. Federal income tax, Social Security, and Medicare take their usual shares as well. No city or county adds to it.
The disability line is a flat slice of every check up to its $100,000 limit, which only the top row of this table passes.
What changes your number
Rhode Island's disability tax is the unusual part. At 1.1 percent of wages it is a steady slice of every paycheck, whatever the wage, and it does not stop until pay passes $100,000 in the year. That keeps the Rhode Island take-home lower at every row, even where the income tax is small.
The three income tax rates climb in modest steps. Form RI W-4 allows one for yourself, one for a spouse, and one for each dependent, up to 10. Because the disability line does not respond to allowances, claiming more only changes the income tax part.
Hours matter too. At $20 an hour and 30 hours a week instead of 40, a two-week paycheck in Rhode Island comes to $991.29.
The minimum wage in Rhode Island
The minimum wage in Rhode Island is $16.00 an hour, and a full-time worker at $16 takes home about $2,279 a month. It rises to $17.00 on Jan 1, 2027. Rhode Island's tipped workers must receive a minimum cash wage of $3.89 an hour, with a maximum tip credit of $12.11.
