What comes out of a Rhode Island paycheck
On $1,500 every two weeks, single, a Rhode Island worker keeps $1,217.79.
Rhode Island taxes income at 3.75, 4.75, and 5.99 percent. The Division of Taxation's 2026 employer booklet gives one percentage method for all filing statuses, and Form RI W-4 has no filing status box.
You claim exemptions instead: one on line 1A for yourself, one on line 1B for a spouse, and one on line 1C for each dependent, up to 10 in all. Each exemption is worth $19.23 a week, $38.46 every two weeks, $41.67 twice a month, or $83.33 a month. Above a high wage limit, for example $5,592.31 a week, exemptions are worth nothing.
Two cautions apply. Line 1B reads "I can claim my spouse as a dependent," and the calculator gives every married worker the spouse exemption, which may overstate it where the spouse files separately. The booklet also does not say how to withhold when a worker gives no RI W-4, so the calculator always assumes you filed one with the exemptions described above.
County and local taxes
Rhode Island's 2026 withholding booklet from the Division of Taxation covers state tax only, and cities and towns here do not tax wages. We did not save an official page that says so directly, so this rests on the booklet and on finding no local wage tax.
That leaves the state's tax and Temporary Disability Insurance as the income-linked deductions, and nothing local is missing from the result.
Disability and paid leave
Rhode Island Temporary Disability Insurance takes 1.1 percent of the first $100,000 of wages in 2026, so the most you can pay is $1,100 for the year. The rate is down from 1.3 percent in 2025, and the wage base is up from $89,200. Only the worker pays it. The program replaces part of your pay when illness or injury keeps you from working, and it also covers family leave to bond with a new child or care for a relative.
Final pay and the minimum wage
Rhode Island's rate is $16.00 an hour for 2026 and becomes $17.00 on January 1, 2027. A tipped job pays $3.89 an hour in cash, with tips on top.
Quitting puts the deadline at the next regular payday. When you are let go, the deadline is also the next regular payday, but it shortens to 24 hours if the business is closing, merging, being sold, or moving out of state.
