What comes out of a Connecticut paycheck
On $1,500 every two weeks, single, a Connecticut worker keeps $1,238.85.
Connecticut taxes income at graduated rates from 2 to 6.99 percent. Its withholding rules are a 16-step formula from the Department of Revenue Services, and the calculator runs that formula. Lower earners get a personal exemption and a credit, and both phase out as pay rises.
The form, CT-W4, has no allowances and no dependents line. A worker picks a letter code instead. The calculator uses Code F for single, Code C for married filing jointly with a spouse who does not work, and Code B for head of household. Dependents never change Connecticut withholding, so claiming children changes the federal number only.
The calculator does not assume Code E, which stops withholding for low expected income, because the formula already gives $0 at low pay. The state also publishes wage-bracket tables from the same rules, and its worked examples use them. A table row and the exact formula can differ by cents. For example, $700 weekly on Code F is $17.65 in the table row and $17.79 by formula. The calculator follows the formula.
County and local taxes
Connecticut has no income tax at the city or town level, and the Department of Revenue Services guidance covers state tax only. We planned to cite a legislative research report on this point, but it could not be fetched when we checked, so the Department's guidance is the only support for this line.
In practice, your Connecticut deduction list ends with the state's tax and CT Paid Leave, with no local amount left out of the result.
Disability and paid leave
CT Paid Leave takes 0.5 percent of wages, up to the Social Security wage limit, which is $184,500 in 2026. The board voted to keep the rate at 0.5 percent for the year. Only the worker pays it. The program pays part of your wages while you are out for a serious health condition, to care for a family member, or to bond with a new child. The Social Security limit is $192,300 for 2027, which would become the 2027 cap if the Authority keeps tying it to that limit.
Final pay and the minimum wage
Connecticut's 2026 minimum wage is $16.94 an hour; a new rate of $17.48 starts January 1, 2027. Tipped jobs pay a cash wage of $6.38 an hour.
If you are fired, your final pay is due by the next business day after the discharge. A worker who is laid off is paid by the next regular payday. If you quit, final pay is due by the next regular payday.
