What comes out of a Tennessee paycheck
On $1,500 every two weeks, single, a Tennessee worker keeps $1,289.10.
Tennessee had a Hall income tax on interest and dividends, never on wages, and it was repealed for tax periods beginning on or after January 1, 2021. Article II, Section 28 of the Tennessee Constitution now bars any state or local tax upon payroll or earned personal income. Tennessee asks for no state withholding form, and a dependent has no effect on state pay.
No state payroll premium is taken from Tennessee workers' pay. On the calculator, the Tennessee line reads $0.00, which leaves federal deductions as the only required ones. Overtime pay and bonuses carry no Tennessee tax either. Moving here from a state that withholds changes the check: the state portion goes away, and the federal amounts stay.
County and local taxes
Tennessee's constitutional ban reaches local governments by its own words: it covers any state or local tax upon payroll or earned personal income. No county or city can claim a share of your pay.
The sales tax you pay at the register never shows up on a pay stub, so there is no local amount to add.
Final pay and the minimum wage
Tennessee has no state minimum wage law, so the federal rate of $7.25 an hour applies to covered employers. The tipped cash wage of $2.13 an hour is the federal figure, not a Tennessee one. The state labor department's help article says Tennessee has no minimum wage law, but it blocked our automated check, so we could not quote it.
When you are let go, final wages are due by the next regular payday after the discharge or 21 days after it, whichever comes later. If you quit, the same rule runs from the day you leave. For example, if the next regular payday is 10 days after you leave, the 21-day mark is later, so 21 days is your deadline.

Checked on Oct 29, 2026. Source: Tennessee Constitution, Article II, Section 28, last sentence, added by Senate Joint Resolution 1 of the 108th General Assembly (capitol.tn.gov/Bills/108/Bill/SJR0001.pdf, fetched Oct 29, 2026) and submitted to voters at the 2014 general election: "the Legislature shall not levy, authorize or otherwise permit any state or local tax upon payroll or earned personal income or any state or local tax measured by payroll or earned personal income." Tennessee Department of Revenue, "Hall Income Tax" (tn.gov/revenue/taxes/hall-income-tax.html, fetched Oct 29, 2026): "The Hall income tax is imposed only on individuals and other entities receiving interest from bonds and notes and dividends from stock... The Hall Income tax was repealed for tax periods that begin on January 1, 2021, or later."
Local taxes: The same Article II, Section 28 language bars "any state or local tax upon payroll or earned personal income" (SJR 1, 108th General Assembly, capitol.tn.gov/Bills/108/Bill/SJR0001.pdf, fetched Oct 29, 2026).
Disability and paid leave: No Tennessee statute or state agency program provides a disability or paid family leave payroll deduction (checked Oct 29, 2026 against the Department of Labor and Workforce Development's required Wage Regulations Act poster and its "Wages, Fringe Benefits, Paychecks & Breaks" page, which list the state's wage laws and name no such deduction).
Minimum wage: Tennessee has no state minimum wage law, so the federal Fair Labor Standards Act rate of $7.25 applies to covered employers. The Department of Labor and Workforce Development's required Wage Regulations Act poster (May 2024; tn.gov/content/dam/tn/workforce/documents/majorpublications/requiredposters/Wage_Poster.pdf, fetched Oct 29, 2026) lists the state's wage laws (notice of wages, paydays, breaks, equal pay, child labor) and sets no wage rate. The department's help article "Should I be paid minimum wage?" (lwdsupport.tn.gov/hc/en-us/articles/360000130587) says "There are no state laws regulating minimum wage"; that page sits behind a browser check and could not be saved.
Final paycheck: Tennessee Department of Labor and Workforce Development, "Wages, Fringe Benefits, Paychecks & Breaks" (tn.gov/workforce/employees/labor-laws/labor-laws-redirect/wages-breaks.html, fetched Oct 29, 2026), citing Tenn. Code Ann. 50-2-103(g): "Any employee who leaves or is discharged from employment shall be paid in full all wages or salary earned by the employee no later than the next regular pay day following the date of dismissal or voluntary leaving, or twenty-one (21) days following the date of discharge or voluntary leaving, whichever occurs last."
Federal withholding: IRS Publication 15-T (2026), Worksheet 1A and its "2026 Percentage Method Tables for Automated Payroll Systems and Withholding on Periodic Payments of Pensions and Annuities," pages 10 to 12. Fetched directly from irs.gov/pub/irs-pdf/p15t.pdf and transcribed Oct 28, 2026.
